Night flying is really not difficult but it differs from daylight operation, in that vision is restricted at night. This instills a certain amount of anxiety in pilots who lack night flight experience. These apprehensions can be overcome only by acquiring the necessary knowledge and experience in night operation. As confidence is gained through experience, many pilots prefer night flying over day flying because the air is usually smoother and generally there is less air traffic to contend with.
Before attempting night operations it is recommended that a complete and thorough checkout by a competent flight instructor be accomplished. This checkout should include a night cross-country flight with landings at airports other than the home field.
