The U.S. Public Health Service reports a malaria risk exists from June through November in all parts of the country below 1500 meters except for Guatemala City and the Central Highlands. A malaria threat exists throughout the year in the northeastern part of the country.

AIRCRAFT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics, La Aurora Airport, Zone 13, Guatemala City, Guatemala (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: DAEROCIVIL GUATEMALA/TELEX: NONE) at least 24 hours in advance. Requests must include:
a. Type of aircraft and registration marks;
b. Aircraft owner and operator;
c. Point of departure and purpose of flight;
d. Destination and ETA in Guatemala;
e. Number of crew;
f. Number and nationality of passengers/type and amount of cargo; and
g. Date of departure and final destination.
2. A response to the request will not be received unless permission is denied or unless restrictions are placed upon the flight. If no response is received within 24 hours, the requestor may assume that the permission is granted. If a definite answer to the request is desired, the requestor must include provision for pre-paid reply. A copy of the request should be kept and carried along on the flight to prove that the request had been sent.

SPECIAL NOTICES
In addition to satisfying entry requirements, foreign pilots flying private commercial aircraft from Guatemala City/La Aurora to another point or points in Guatemala must request a special flight permit from the Guatemalan Directorate General of Civil Aviation. This permit can be obtained from the Office of Air Transit on workdays, and at other times from the Aeronautic Information Service Office in the Civil Aviation Building, La Aurora Airport.
A valid pilot's license and proof of third-party insurance coverage must be presented. A pilot who plans to operate within Guatemala for more than one month must submit his request in wririting, on Guatemalan legal paper, along with proof of third-party insurance and pilot's license, directly to the Director of Civil Aviation at La Aurora.
