Section 12. Registration Requirements

1-12-1. REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS FOR BORDER CROSSINGS:

a. Article 29 of the Convention of International Civil Aviation requires each aircraft of a contraction State to carry a Certificate of Registration when engaged in international air navigation. Therefore, other countries are not required to recognize the PINK COPY of the Aircraft Registration Application, AC Form 8050-1, which allows aircraft to be used up to 90 days WITHIN the United States and accordingly is NOT VALID for BORDER CROSSING FLIGHTS.

b. To minimize hardships for new owners wishing to use their aircraft in international operations, the applicant may submit a request for expedited processing along with the required registration documents.

c. To meet registration requirements, a new owner should send the following:

1. The completed Aircraft Registration Application, AC Form 8050-1, signed in ink by the applicant showing appropriate title.

2. Documentary evidence of ownership (i.e. - bill of sale, etc.) signed in INK by the seller(s) for each change in ownership to the purchaser.

3. A registration fee of $5. A check or money order in that amount should be made payable to the U.S. Treasury.

d. For international operation, the applicant should submit a request for expedited processing. The request should include the following:

1. A complete description of the aircraft by name of manufacturer, model designation, serial number, and registration number.

2. The date, time and destination of the flight.

3. The fax number including the city and state where the temporary certificate is to be sent.

4. The applicant's name, signature, and title, if appropriate.

e. A temporary certificate will be issued and faxed after registration has been completed in the name of the applicant. The fax may then be carried as a temporary registration certificate, pending receipt of the actual Certificate of Aircraft Registration, AC Form 8050-3.
