PERSONAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

PASSPORT: Required. (Individuals entering Libya may be required to furnish passports written in Arabic.) The United States does not permit U.S. Passports to be used to enter Libya.

VISA: Required

HEALTH & IMMUNIZATION: Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificates are required for all travelers arriving from infected areas. The U.S. Public Health Service reports that a malaria risk exists in the southwestern quarter of the country from February through August.

UNITED STATES' EMBASSY IN LIBYA

ADDRESS: On May 2, 1980, all embassy working activities were suspended and all American personnel were withdrawn from the embassy. No American Foreign Service personnel are accredited to Libya. The Embassy of Belgium, Tripoli, and Libya provides protective services.

AIRCRAFT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft, for reasons of safety of flight, prior permission in addition to the filing of a flight plan is required if any foreign civil aircraft intends to carry out a series of nonscheduled flight(s) in transit across, or making non-traffic stops, in the territory of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (SPLAJ). In this regard, the Gulf of Sirte south of latitude 32530'N is an integral part of the SPLAJ.

2. Prior permission is required if an operator intends to carry out a (series of) nonscheduled flight(s) into SPLAJ for the purpose of taking on or discharging passengers, cargo or mail.

3. Application for permission should be submitted to the Director General of Civil Aviation Administration, Secretariat of Communication and Sea Transport, Tripoli, SPLAJ (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: DIRECTAIR TRIPOLIBYE/AFTN: HILLTYA) by a letter at least 30 days before the intended date of flight, or by a reply-paid telegram (of not less than 25 words reply) at least 7 days before the operation; or in extremely urgent cases 48 hours before departure. It is forbidden to start operations before receiving the reply from the General Administration of Civil Aviation granting the required permission.

4. All requests for permission must include:

a. Full name, business address and the nationality of the operator;

b. Type of aircraft to be used;

c. Nationality and registration marks of the aircraft;

d. Airport(s) to be used in the SPLAJ;

e. Itinerary of flight, from point of origin to destination;

f. Date and time of arrival at, and departure from, SPLAJ airport(s) or, if overflying, the points of entry, departure and exit over SPLAJ territory and the date(s) and estimated times over those points;

g. Purpose of flight and details of passengers and/or nature and weight and kind of freight destined for, or to be embarked at the SPLAJ;

h. Name, address, nationality and business of charterer, if any; and

i. Name of consignee.

SPECIAL NOTICES

Any aircraft originating from or destined to the Republic of South Africa, Egypt or Israel will be denied an overflight or landing clearance.
