HEALTH & IMMUNIZATION: Cholera Certificates are required only from travelers who are proceeding to countries requiring a certificate. Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificates are required for all travelers. The U.S. Public Health Service reports that a malaria risk exists throughout the country, therefore, an appropriate anti-malaria prophylactic is highly recommended. The U.S. Public Health Service also reports that a particularly high prevalence of penicillin resistant gonorrhea exists in Nigeria. Meningitis is epidemic in northern portions of the country from December to April; appropriate immunization is recommended. Aids is present in Nigeria and appropriate precautions must be taken to preclude sexual and blood/needle transmission.

AIRCRAFT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
1. Private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Nigerian Federal Civil Aviation Authority, Murtala Mohammed Airport, P.M.B. 21038, Ikeja, Nigeria (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: AIRCIVIL LAGOS/TELEX: 26566 ARB NG and 26567 ARB NG) at least 48 hours prior to departure.
2. All requests must include:
a. Name of operator;
b. Type of aircraft and registration marks;
c. Dates, times and points of entry and exit from Nigerian airspace;
d. Date and time of arrival and departure for each airport concerned;
e. Place(s) of embarkation or disembarkation abroad, as the case may be, of passengers and/or cargo;
f. Purpose of flight and number of passengers and/or type and amount of cargo;
g. Name, address, and business of charterer, if any; and
h. Nationality of operator, pilot and crew. For cargo flights, the name and address of the consignee must be included.
3. Application for landing and overflight should be submitted directly to the Nigerian Federal Civil Aviation Authority, not the U.S. Embassy.
CORPORATE AIRCRAFT CONSTRAINTS
In 1992 Nigeria established diplomatic ties with Israel and therefore, nonmilitary certification of flights to and from Israel are no longer required. Flights to/from South Africa and overflight clearance for flights bound for or originating in South Africa will be adjudicated on a case by case basis.
