HEALTH & IMMUNIZATION: Cholera shots are required for entry by travelers arriving from areas where cholera is endemic. Menningococcal AC Vaccine may be required during certain seasons. Malaria risk exists in southwestern Saudi Arabia in the ASIR Region. Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificates are required for travelers arriving from any infected country.

OTHER: Saudi Arabia forbids the importation, sale or use of alcohol, and may apply the death penalty for anyone convicted of possession of drugs with intent to distribute. In this conservative Muslim society, visitors are advised not to have in their possession any non-Muslim religious material, pork products or video tapes and material which may be construed to be pornographic.

AIRCRAFT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Presidency of Civil Aviation, P.O. Box 887, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: CIVILAIR JEDDAH/TELEX: 601093 CIVAIR SJ) at least 72 hours in advance of departure.

2. Requests for overflights or technical stops for all aircraft carrying military personnel or supplies must be submitted through the U.S. Embassy. Such applications must be submitted at least 15 days in advance since the request must be forwarded via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and receive Ministry of Defense and Aviation approval before clearance can be granted.

3. All requests must include:

a. Type of aircraft and type of clearance required;

b. Aircraft flight number, registration number and radio call;

c. Complete route of flight, including points of origin and final destination;

d. Dates, times and points of entry and exit from Saudi Arabian airspace;

e. Dates, times and airports of landing and departure, if landing, including reasons for landing;

f. Cruising altitude;

g. Name of captain and number of crew;

h. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo, including approximate weight of cargo;

i. Purpose of flight;

j. Name and address of operator and client, if any; and

k. Confirmation that all necessary documents and licenses are carried on board.

4. Aircraft clearances are usually granted for 24 hours before and 72 hours after the date requested. The aircraft owner or pilot should give prompt notification of any further change in schedule. A clearance can only be amended in case of slight changes. Major changes require submission of a new clearance request.

CORPORATE AIRCRAFT CONSTRAINTS

Request to land in or operate between points in Saudi Arabia are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Justification provided by Saudi firms or government entity sponsoring visits, is a deciding factor. Also, aircraft enroute to/from or manufactured in Israel cannot overfly or land in Saudi Arabia.

SPECIAL NOTICES

1. Israeli aircraft or Israeli-made aircraft and any other foreign aircraft heading for or departing from Israel, are not permitted to overfly or land in Saudi territory.

2. Aircraft flying over Saudi Arabian territory without prior permission and/or flying outside the designated air corridors will be intercepted and forced to land.

3. Flight-line transportation is available for general aviation aircraft. It can be arranged through ARABASCO Terminal (TELEPHONE: 685-5350/TELEX: 604119 ASCO SJ). Operators must arrange their own services; ATCT will not accept requirements for fuel, catering, flight plan clearances, etc., operators or agents must arrange this. Passenger manifests are to be submitted to executive office for flight-line clearance. General declarations are required upon departure. Foreign civil aircraft will be granted permission to land at a single airport. They will not have the privilege to operate at other airports after their arrival in the Kingdom.

SPECIAL RESTRICTION

No aircraft departing from airports in Israel will be allowed to service, refuel or land at any airport within the territory of Saudi Arabia, nor will aircraft be cleared from any airport in Saudi Arabia to any airport in Israel. This restriction also applied to aircraft wishing to overfly Saudi territory to or from airports in Israel.
