PERSONAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

PASSPORT: Required. Sufficient exchange for his/her maintenance at the minimum rate of $15 per day.

An onward or return ticket, or foreign exchange to purchase an outward ticket.

VISA: Nationals of the following countries coming to Sri Lanka as a bona-fide tourist do not require entry visas for a period of 30 days; Britain and Colonies, Canada, Eire, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Bangladesh, Yugoslavia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United States, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Spain and Maldives. Such tourist should however have a visa for the country to which they are proceeding from Sri Lanka if the law of that country requires it. Nations of the above countries require a visit visa to enter Sri Lanka if they are not coming as a bona-fide tourist. Visit visas are issued by Sri Lanka Diplomatic Missions abroad.

Nationals of all other countries not included in the above list require a visa for entry into Sri Lanka whether a bona-fide tourist or not.

TRANSIT VISAS: Transit visas are issued by Sri Lanka Diplomatic Missions abroad for a period not exceeding one week to those who wish to disembark in Sri Lanka in order to continue their journey by a different ship or aircraft.

EXTENSION OF STAY: A visitor who enters Sri Lanka on a Landing Endorsement valid for one month may apply to the Controller of Immigration and Emigration for an extension for visa for further stay. Such extensions are granted at his discretion and dealt with by the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Chaitiya Road, Colombo 1. Unit 06. Tele: 21509/29851-5/20753.

HEALTH & IMMUNIZATION: Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificates are required for travelers arriving from infected areas. The U.S. Public Health Service reports that a malaria risk exists in all parts of the country below 800 meters, except for the City of Colombo.

OTHER: The import and export of Sri Lanka, Indian, and Pakistani currency is prohibited. However, all persons leaving Sri Lanka are permitted to export on their person and those entering Sri Lanka are permitted to import on their person, Sri Lanka currency notes and coins up to a maximum of Sri Lankan Rupees 250/-. There is no restriction on the import of other currencies. All currencies in the possession of the traveler must be declared on arrival and those which are not used in Sri Lanka may be exported on departure. Currency conversion must be done at authorized banks and dealers only.

AIRCRAFT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission, for the Director of Civil Aviation at least 48 hours prior to entering the airspace of Sri Lanka. All request must include items (a) thru (g) below.

2. All nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Director of Civil Aviation, Lotus Road, Colombo 1, Sri Lanka (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: AIRCIVIL COLOMBO/TELEX: NONE) at least 48 hours prior to departure.

3. All requests must include:

a. Name of operator;

b. Type of aircraft and registration marks;

c. Date and time of arrival at the airport concerned;

d. Purpose of flight;

e. Number of passengers, type and amount of cargo;

f. Name, address and business of charterer, if any; and

g. Fuel and servicing requirements.

4. Clearance for scheduled commercial flights to land in Sri Lanka for commercial purposes is given only on the basis of a bilateral air services agreement between the aeronautical authorities of Sri Lanka and the aeronautical authorities of the country to which the scheduled carrier belongs.

5. Charter flights and air travel club flights must apply for permission to the Director of Civil Aviation at least

three months in advance of the intended flight.

6. Approval for airlines desirous of carrying freight to or from Sri Lanka on receipt of an application to the Director of Civil Aviation furnishing the following information required well in advance of the date of operation:

a. Itinerary of the flight or flight schedule for Regular Carriage;

b. Type and registration of aircraft to be used;

c. Name and address of the local agent;

d. Nature of cargo; and

e. An ad-hoc charter carrier should forward in addition to the above information a copy of Declaration of Competency issued by the aeronautical authority of the airline's country of origin.

7. Once approval is granted the airline should ensure that cargo is handled expeditiously and Air Lanka is not burdened as a result of any delay in handling.
