PERSONAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

PASSPORT: Required

VISA: All persons entering the Sudan must hold a valid passport and appropriate immigration visa. All air operators must ensure strict adherence to these requirements and noncompliance will result in the immediate deportation of the passenger by the same flight and carrier. Flight crew members who retain their license in their possession when embarking and disembarking, who remain at the airport and depart on the same aircraft may present their license in lieu of passport or visa for temporary admission into Sudan. This provision is not applicable if the crew member enters the Sudan as a passenger for the purpose of joining an aircraft. A valid exit visa is required except for the following categories:

a. Diplomatic mission personnel (including international organizations personnel);

b. Visitors leaving Sudan within a period not exceeding three months from date of entry; and

c. Passengers on aircraft stranded for technical reasons will be allowed to enter the Sudan and need not provide an exit visa providing they depart on the same flight or a relief flight. Entry/transit visas may be granted at the airport under extraordinary circumstances and subject to prior arrangement with immigration authorities.

HEALTH & IMMUNIZATION: Cholera Vaccination Certificates are required for all travelers arriving from infected areas. Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificates are required for all travelers arriving from infected areas and also for travelers arriving from Panama and any country in Africa and South America which lies, in whole or part, between 15 degrees North Latitude and 10 degrees South Latitude. The U.S. Public Health Service reports that a malaria risk exists throughout the country. There have been isolated cases of chloroquine resistant P. Falciparum in the northern provinces. Aircraft arriving from abroad must be disinfected approximately 30 minutes before arrival at the destination airport. Aerosol or equivalent insecticide should be used. This action must be properly recorded in the Health section of the General Declaration.

AIRCRAFT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. All private and nonscheduled commercial flights overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Director General of Civil Aviation, P.O. Box 430, Khartoum, Sudan (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: CIVAIR KHARTOUM/TELEX: 22650 DGCA SD) at least 3 weeks by letter prior to departure or two weeks in advance (by commercial telegraph) and must include provision for prepaid reply. Flight clearance requests must be obtained through local agents.

2. All requests must include:

a. Name of the owner;

b. Mark and registration number;

c. Call sign and flight number;

d. Names of the crew and captain;

e. Load and nature;

f. Route and final destination;

g. Entry-Exit points;

h. Date and time of the flight;

i. Purpose of the flight;

j. The application should be presented two (2) weeks before the date of the flight; and

k. The commercial flight's applications should be presented to the Civil Aviation Authority within the context of the Commercial Aviation Agreements.

CORPORATE AIRCRAFT CONSTRAINTS

Cabotage permitted only for ``work-related'' passengers. Flights listing South Africa or Israel as points of origin, transit, or termination are prohibited. All flight clearance requests must be processed through an agent in the Sudan. The U.S. Embassy in Khartoum lists the following agents:

SPECIAL NOTICES

1. Flights should not be destined for or originate from Israel or the Republic of South Africa. The performance of air services for aircraft registered, chartered, hired, leased, borrowed or owned by legal entities established in either Israel or South Africa is prohibited by the Sudan Boycott Act.

2. Due to the congestion of cargo at Khartoum Airport, no cargo flights either scheduled or nonscheduled will be permitted to load or offload. Exceptions are direct delivery, medicines, medical equipment, vaccines, diplomatic mail and newspapers.
