BIG DROP III, Largest Air Drop Since WWII
June 01, 1996 C-141B Starlifters assigned to the 15th and 16th Airlift Squadron of the 437 Air Wing, Charleston Air Force Base South Carolina and the 4th, 7th, and 8th Airlift Squadrons of the 67 Air Wing out of McChord Air Force Base, Washington were launched from Charleston Air Force Base as part of Big Drop III. A total of 144 aircraft took part in this air drop making this the largest air drop since World War II. The aircraft transported United States Army heavy equipment to drop zones near Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina.
