DEL RIO, TEXAS, July 31, 1997 - Border Patrol Agents from the Eagle Pass Station seized 793.6 pounds of marijuana at 6:30 this morning. The seizure occurred about 20 miles upriver of Eagle Pass. According to the Border Patrol report, two Agents encountered suspicious activity while on routine patrol in the Quemado area. As the Agents continued down a trail on foot, they were able to observe several people and hear others running through the cane. As the Agents began pursuit of those in sight, they noticed many bundles of what appeared to be marijuana scattered along the trail. The subjects were able to escape, but left behind a total of 21 bundles of marijuana worth an estimated $634, 880.
