March 26, 1939, on Takeoff from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Braniff Airlines DC-2 blew the two halves of the cowling open resulting in excessive drag. The pilot attempted to circle back however the pilot was unsucessful. The DC-2 crashed blowing up into flames. 8 of the 12 passengers were killed.
