Airport and Airway Development Act of 1970

The Airport and Airway Development Act 1970 authorized the administrator to set minimum safety standards for airports and issue operating certificates to air carrier airports meeting those standards. This Act replaced the Federal Airport Act. The sister act, the Airport and Airway Revenue Act of 1970, brought about taxes on users of aviation system. These taxes were to be used to further enhance the aviation system. This Act critically damaged general aviation. This Act was responsible for the high cost of aviation fuel, landing fees, airport tax, etc.
