The End of The Korean War

July 27, 1953  The crowning blows to the Communists were not dealt solely at the front lines. In June 1952, USAF B-29s bombed North Korean power plants, including the Suiho hydroelectric plant on the Yalu, and knocked out more than 90% of North Korea's electric power production.

This crippled the numerous small war industries still in operation. The next May, F-84s bombed and destroyed   the Toksan and Chasan irrigation dams, causing enormous flood damage. North Korea's agricultural economy was ruined. With much of North Korea devastated and realizing that they could not conquer South Korea, the Communists finally decided to stop the bloodshed. On July 27, 1953, a truce went into effect and hostilities ended.
