FBO At Castroville Municipal Airport Gets Shafted By City Officials

January 28, 2000, The Castroville Airport, Inc. an FBO located at Castroville Municipal Airport, Texas has been a long time tenant at the airport. Castroville city attorney filed suit against the FBO in order to break their 20-year lease on the building and land occupied by Castroville Airport, Inc.

The lawsuit filed all most five years ago was heard before Castroville district judge who's bias position allowed a summary judgment allowing city officials to rewrite a new lease that would allow the city to build on this leased land. The owners of Castroville Airport, Inc. reported that they had an inexperience law firm representing them. The law firm convinced them to sign a memorandum in which Castroville Airport, Inc. could change later after the City provided a new lease agreement. However, upon writing a new lease, the owners of Castroville Airport, Inc. rejected the new lease, as the new lease did not address their concerns. Castroville city attorney went back into court and the district judged ruled a summary judgment in the city's favor.

Castroville Airport, Inc. retained a more qualified law firm, appealed the judgment and won. "We have finally got a trial date of April 3,4,and 5, 2000. The new judge wanted us to mediate the problem out if possible. We are going into mediation Feb. 24 and 25, 2000". The city in the meantime, has cut the runway width in half from 150 feet to 75 feet. They shortened the length from 5000 feet to 4600 feet. They have put a weight limit of 12,500 pounds gross weight on the facility. They have removed their 50-foot wide taxiways and put in 35-foot wide taxiways.
