Intoxicated Pilot Buzzed Miami International Airport  

Miami, Florida, May 6, 2000, police arrested a 21 year old private pilot, Jesse Mathew Goldman of Fort Lauderdale  for flying while intoxicated. The pilot, forced part of Miami International Airport (MIA) to be temporarily shut down Friday night. Tower personnel reported to the policy that Mr. Goldman was buzzing the tower, they further reported that Mr. Goldman was flying his aircraft in a hazardous manner over the airport.

The pilot, forced part of Miami International Airport (MIA) to be temporarily shut down Friday night. Tower personnel reported to the policy that Mr. Goldman was buzzing the tower, they further reported that Mr. Goldman was flying his aircraft in a hazardous manner over the airport.

Miami Police spokesman, Juan DelCastillo reported "He was flying so low he would disappear behind the cargo buildings" Air traffic controllers attempted several times to reach him by radio and by light signals. The airport was placed under "Ground Stop", which prevented planes from landing and taking off. Eventually Goldman was forced to land at MIA after police helicopters hovered over him. Police reported the aircraft landed without incident and Goldman was arrested for intoxication while operating an aircraft, other charges are pending. A opened bottle of wine was found in the cockpit. Goldman faces a third-degree felony charge which is punishable for up to five years and a five thousand dollar fine. Goldman left Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport about 7pm and Landed at MIA at 7:50 pm.
