The USAF Changes Its Insignia  

This Northrop XB-35 "Flying Wing" bomber illustrates the design adopted on Jan 14, 1947 with horizontal red bars added to the white blocks on either side of the circle.

This basic design remains in use today on most USAF aircraft.
