The Postal Service Honors General Davis

The Postal Service Honors General Davis.

On 28 January 1997, the U.S. Postal Service dedicated and issued a stamp honoring Benjamin Oliver Davis, Sr., the first African American general officer in the U.S. armed forces. Thus, General Davis became the 20th American honored in the U.S. Postal Service's Black Heritage stamp series. The stamp depicts Davis at the height of his career on an inspection tour near the American front in France in August 1944.
