American Airlines Pilots Continue With Sick Out

February 13, 1999, US District Judge Joe Kendal fed-up with American Airline pilots sick out has ordered the pilots back to work and the the union to be fined 10 million dollars and must pay American Airline for moneys lost this weekend. As a result of this sick out American Airlines has had to cancel over 850 flights today.

At the root of the unions concern is the number of regional flights have been turn over to there subsidiaries such as American Eagle the pilots want this to stop. The pilots of American Eagle are under a different union and are paid much less than American Airline Pilots. Also the pilots want a yearly 3 percent wage increase yearly starting August 31, 1997, through 1999, a two percent pay increase in the year 2000, stock options and the phasing out of a lower pay and pension scale for new hires.
