The Nations Tallest Control Tower Is Online
 

The newly constructed Houston Intercontinental Airport Traffic Control Tower, 336' measured from ground level, is the nation's tallest ATC facility. Dedication ceremonies for the new control tower at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport took  place on December 12, 1997. President George Bush, congressmen and other dignitaries participated in the ribbon cutting ceremonies. President Bush took a tour of the new tower. It took over 10 years to complete the planning and construction of the tower.

It officially opened on September 20, 1997 with the first arrival at 4:06 in the morning. At 334 feet, it is the tallest control tower in the country and was located to serve the present runway structure as well as runways planned for the near future. Ground breaking occurred February 28, 1994. The total construction cost was $9.9 million.
