Viking Air Transport DC-3 Unable To Maintain VMC Crashed Killing All On Board
Richmond, Virginia, May 16, 1946, a Viking Air Transport Douglas DC-3 encounters an engine failure, with only one engine working the pilot tried to maintain VMC, that is minimum control airspeed must be maintain when a loss of an engine occurs. While attempting to locate Byrd Field for an emergency landing with a full load, the pilot was unable to maintain adequate control of the aircraft to effect an emergency single engine instrument approach under adverse weather conditions. The aircraft crashed killing all 25 on board. |
