American Airlines Sponsors CRP Future Pilots Inaugural Class By Mike Mitchell

		December 8, 2009 - Eight students from the inaugural class of the American Airlines sponsored CRP Future Pilots Flight School will take to the skies for their first solo flights. Each student will conduct three take offs and landings without assistance from their instructors. The solo flights will begin at 9 a.m. at the Dallas Executive Airport, 5125 Voyager Ave., Dallas on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009. Four American Airlines pilots will also be on-hand to present students with certificates of accomplishment immediately after their solo flights. The CRP Future Pilots Flight School’s inaugural class is made up of juniors and seniors enrolled at De Soto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Participating students include Blake Bozarth, 18; Xavier Christian, 17; Will Gardner 16; Marisa Paramo, 17: Leedarius Robertson, 17; John Stephens, 17; Aisha Steward, 17; and Jeremy Vargas, 17.

Founded in 2008, the CRP Future Pilots Flight School is dedicated to educating disadvantage youth between 8 and 18 years of age in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in aviation maintenance, piloting principles and math and science. The CRP Future Pilots Flight School is among American Airlines most important community initiatives and receives support from the company at large. Back in June one hundred boys from around the country got perhaps their first look at what it takes to be a pilot – and some life-changing advice on how to make their own dreams come true – from entertainer Steve Harvey, who was hosted by American Airlines over Father’s Day weekend. The boys attended the first-ever Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend at his Dallas ranch. The actor, comedian and best-selling author created the mentoring weekend to support boys ages 13-18 who are being raised without fathers in their homes. During the camp, they visited the C.R.P. Future Pilots Flight School, which is sponsored by the airline. The school, based at Executive Airport in Dallas, teaches at-risk children in the Dallas and Tarrant county school systems to become pilots and aircraft mechanics.
