How Long Will It Take To Be Come A Pilot

How Long Will It Take

The length of time that it will take you to obtain your pilots depends on several factors. That is; how much time a week you can devote to your studies and flying lessons, how well you prepare for each classroom session and flying lesson, how well you retain information and most of all you finances. Generally speaking, at minimum you should spend 4 to 6 hours a week with your studies and one hour a week flying.

It's very important that you keep up with your studies each week or your flight instructor will need to spend more time reviewing that information costing you more time and money. As you now know by now, in order to qualify for you pilots license you must have a minimum of 40 hours of flight time. However, on average, it will take between 60-80 hours learn the skills needed to be a safe pilot and be able to take a flight exam and pass. Depending on how many hours you can afford to fly a week will certainly play a major role in the length of time it take to obtain a pilots license.

Realistically, you are looking between 8 to 15 months. At 1 hour a week flying lesson x 4 weeks = 4 hours a month divided 60 hours = 15 months. At 2 hours a week x 4 weeks = 8 hours a month divided by 60 hours = 7.5 months.  Some flight schools offer a package deal. For a fixed amount they will guarantee you a pilots license. In some cases this is a good idea. For a fixed dollar amount prepaid ($4000.-$5000.) you can fly 4 to 12 hours per week or what you are capable of flying. This cuts down the amount of time it take to obtain you pilots license. I wholeheartedly recommend this for advanced pilots. You can find more information about these types of flight schools in airplane magazines or in Trader Plane Flight Magazines which can be picked up at you local FBO.
