September 11, 2001, A Day America Experienced One Of The Greatest Tragedies Ever Witnessed On American Soil

What Really Happened?

September 11, 2001,  The following is a summary of the known facts surrounding today's incidents:

  • American Airlines flight 11 departed Boston for Los Angeles, was hijacked by suspects armed with knives. This plane crashed into the World Trade Center.

  • United Airlines flight 175 departed Boston for Los Angeles, was hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center.

  • American Airlines flight 77 departed Washington Dulles for Los Angeles, was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon.

  • United Airlines flight 93 departed Newark for San Francisco, was hijacked and crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Secretary Mineta has ordered that national airspace closed to commercial and private aviation. This means that all non military aircraft are grounded.

Events As they Unfold:

Something Is Not Adding Up

"We have received the raw radar data tracking the four hijacked flights and the planes scrambled out of Otis and Langley. Both the Otis and Langley fighters vectored over water and took a rather circuitous route to their intended destinations; their routing raises additional questions about whether, given a more direct flight path, the scrambled aircraft could have reached the hijacked aircraft in time. This issue will be the subject of further document requests and interviews."

"We have learned about a C130 aircraft that National Airport, at approximately 0932, asked Andrews to divert from its scheduled mission to go look for Flight 77. The C130 encountered Flight 77 west of the Pentagon and literally followed it as it crashed into the Pentagon. This is the first we learned of this aircraft (NORAD did not mention it at the hearing) and it raises a number of questions regarding the orders and communications its pilots received."

(The 911 commission reported the 757 was traveling at 530 MPH when it crashed into the Pentagon. How is it possible the much slower plane the C130 was able to keep up with it?)
