The Cessna 400 was derived from the normally-aspirated Columbia 300 which was itself derived from the Lancair ES kit aircraft. The 400 is powered by a turbocharged Continental TSIO-550-C engine producing 310 horsepower with a max cruise speed of 270 mph and with a range of 1280 nautical miles. The aircraft is equipped with a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit. It is truly amazing that this brazing individual was able to fly across country and over the water with what little aviation skills he has.

It is very unlikely that this individual flew cross country without raising any alarms with air traffic control. However authorities feel it has the markings of the Barefoot Burglar. Investigators believe the single engine aircraft worth over $600,000 was stolen between 9:30 PM Saturday and 6:30 AM Sunday. The aircraft is registered to BS LLC, in Jennings, Indiana. The FBI on Tuesday has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Colton Harris-Moore.

The Bahamas Flight Services reported the aircraft crash landed in the water just off the shoreline of the Bahamas and that there is neither a trace of the pilot nor any passengers. The US Coast Guard picked up signals from the aircraft's Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) which alerted the Bahamian authorities.
