Jazz Pilots Reach A Deal With Management

June 28, 2010 – The Air Line Pilots Association Int’l (ALPA), representing more than 1,500 pilots employed by Jazz Air (formerly Air Canada Jazz), confirmed that they have signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MOS) for a tentative agreement with Jazz Air management representatives after 13 months of intense negotiations. The pilots’ collective agreement expired June 30, 2009.

The MOS forms the basis of a tentative agreement between Jazz pilots and management and establishes the foundation for a fair and equitable work contract. If approved by the Jazz Master Executive Council (MEC), a tentative agreement will be taken to the pilot membership for a final ratification vote in early July. Details of the settlement will not be released until ratification by Jazz pilots is complete.

“With unwavering support from our Union, ALPA Int’l, and the full backing of the Association’s resources, we were able to achieve our contract goals,” said Captain Brian Shury, MEC chairman.

“The Jazz MEC looks forward to implementing a new collective agreement with the Company once it is ratified by the MEC and our members.” In May the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) released the results of the strike ballot conducted by the pilots of Jazz Air. An overwhelming 99 percent of pilots voted in favor of a lawful strike should it become necessary to conclude a fair collective agreement with Jazz Air. “This vote serves as notice to Jazz Air LP that we are united and are committed to achieving a fair and equitable contract now.”

Air Canada Jazz is a Canadian regional airline based at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Enfield, Nova Scotia, that is operated by Jazz Air Income Fund. It is Canada's largest regional air carrier operating for Air Canada to 82 destinations in Canada and the United States. Its main base is Halifax Stanfield International Airport, with hubs at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Vancouver International Airport, Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, and Calgary International Airport.

Established in 2001, Air Canada Jazz was formed from the consolidation of the Air Canada connector carriers Air BC, Air Nova, Air Ontario and Canadian Regional Airlines shortly after the successful takeover of Canadian Airlines by Air Canada. As of April 2007, it employed 4,913 people.
