April 24, 2012 - Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC), has received Transport Canada type certification for the PT6C-67E turboshaft engine that will power Eurocopter’s EC175 helicopter. The Eurocopter EC175 is a new multirole helicopter and the PT6C-67E is the latest turboshaft engine in the PT6C-67 family for the medium class helicopter segment. 

“The PT6C-67E engine is the latest in our line of PT6 turboshaft engines,” said Richard Dussault, Vice-President, Marketing, P&WC. “Having cleared the type certification milestone we can now transition from development to production as we prepare for the first delivery of the EC175.” 

The PT6C-67E builds on the experience of the PT6 family of turboprop and turboshaft engines, bringing unmatched reliability to a market where dispatch, availability and safety are paramount.

The PT6C-67E incorporates P&WC’s latest technological innovations for enhanced power and fuel efficiency, for longer range, increased payload and enhanced pilot experience to the EC175. “We are always focused on delivering the engine features and service technologies that bring the best value to our customers,” said Dussault.

The PT6C-67E engine, like all P&WC engines, is backed by a comprehensive customer service network,  including more than 30 P&WC-owned and designated service facilities and more than 100 field support representatives around the globe, a 24/7 Customer First Centre for rapid expert support, advanced diagnostic capabilities and a large pool of rental and exchange engines.

P&WC powered the first flight of the EC175 prototype helicopter in December 2009 and has performed flawlessly throughout the flight test program on Eurocopter’s two flight test aircraft. The PT6C turboshaft family of engines is derived from the industry-proven PT6A-67 turboprop engine, which has accumulated more than 10 million hours of operation.  Given that history, the PT6C family provides the best power-to-weight ratio in its engine class and has one of the lowest maintenance costs and emission levels in the industry.
