Tiger Airways Appoints Robert Sharp As New CEO

May 2, 2013 - Tiger Airways announced the appointment of Rob Sharp as the new CEO for Tiger Airways Australia Pty Limited (Tiger Australia). Rob is an experienced senior aviation executive, having held a number of executive positions with Qantas Airways over the past 15 years.

He brings with him a wealth of commercial expertise including specialist experience in operating in a multi-brand environment, and is backed by strong operational credentials and a track record of innovation. Rob has served in various commercial roles at Qantas Airways over the last eight years, including Strategy and Innovation, and Global Airport Infrastructure and Services.

“I have full confidence in Rob’s leadership and capabilities. He knows the ground well, and is full of creative ideas and solutions. With him in the cockpit, we can expect strong, sound business decisions, and positive results at the end of the day,” said Koay Peng Yen, Group CEO of Tiger Airways.

Tiger Airways and Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (Virgin Australia) are currently in the process of finalizing a proposed joint venture under which Virgin Australia would acquire 60% of the existing shares in Tiger Australia from Tiger Airways. The proposed transaction still remains subject to certain conditions and regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Virgin Australia CEO Mr John Borghetti commented: “We are delighted with the appointment of Rob as the new CEO of Tiger Australia. Rob’s extensive executive management career in aviation and strong leadership skills will be of great value to the airline. I am confident that Rob will build a sustainable low-cost carrier and bring strong competition to the budget segment”.

“I am privileged to be part of the Tiger team as it embarks on a new and exciting chapter. I see many opportunities ahead and look forward to leveraging these to build a stronger Tiger Australia,” said Rob. Rob began work at Tiger Australia on Tuesday.

Tiger Airways Holdings, established in 2003, is the parent company of a group of budget carriers operating in the Asian region and Australia. The group consists of wholly-owned Tiger Airways Singapore and Tiger Airways Australia, and partially-owned Mandala Airlines and SEAir. Tiger Airways aims to expand its presence in Asia through both new strategic partnerships and organic growth. As at 31 March 2013, the Group’s fleet comprises 43 Airbus A320-family aircraft, averaging under three years of age. The Group operates an extensive network covering over 50 destinations across 13 countries in the Asia Pacific.
