July 10, 2010 - Bahamian authorities have reported that the “Barefoot Burglar” Colton Harris-Moore has been spotted on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas which lays about 50 miles east of Nassau. Over the July 4th weekend Colton Harris-Moore stole a single engine Cessna Corvalis 400, tail number N660BA, from Monroe County Airport (KBMG) Bloomington, Indiana and crash landed in shallow waters off Great Abaco Island.

As soon as Colton Harris-Moore, who turned 19 years old on March 22, landed in the Bahamas he began his break-in spree of local businesses. The fugitive has been on the run from the law since 2007. Colton Harris-Moore has eluded U.S authorities and now the Bahamian authorities.

Authorities reported on Friday that the manager for the Moorings Hotel and Marina Resort reported that a 44 foot long cruiser powerboat had been stolen on Tuesday from the marina in Marsh Harbor, Great Abaco Island and that Colton Harris-Moore, dubbed the “Barefoot Burglar” for the reason that he once kicked off his shoes to flee police chasing him in the woods of his home town Camano Island, Washington, had been spotted in Eleuthera. Authorities further reported that Colton Harris-Moore was caught on surveillance cameras at the marina about 4 AM next to Curly Tails restaurant at the marina.

Eleuthera is very long and thin island, 110 miles long and little more than a mile wide. According to the 2000 Census, the population of Eleuthera is approximately 8,000. The topography of the island varies from wide rolling pink sandy beaches to large outcrops of ancient coral reefs. The eastern side of the island faces the Atlantic Ocean while the western side faces the Great Bahama Bank.

Colton Harris-Moore, better known as Colt, was born on March 22, 1991.  He is 19 years of age, stands 6’5” and wieghs 210 pounds.  Colt grew up in a mobile home in an isolated area of Camano Island located in the state of Washington. The youth, who has a history of parental abuse and a history of criminal behavior, was sentenced to 3 years in a juvenile detention center. However, Colton was later transferred to a halfway house because of good behavior. In 2008, while serving time in the halfway home, Colton escaped out a second story window and has been on the run ever since.

Since his escape Colton Harris-Moore has been involved in numerous break-ins and stealing of boats, cars and aircraft across the U.S., Canada and now the Bahamas. Although Colton Harris-Moore does not have a pilot’s license, he has stolen several aircraft and crash landed after running out of fuel. The only flight training that Colton Harris-Moore has received is from a flight manual he ordered online and using a personal computer based flight simulator.

Colton Harris-Moore's mother Pam Kohler gave a news media interview in which she stated, "I hope to hell he stole those airplanes, I'd would be so proud, I want him to wear a parachute next time."
