GBA Introduces ArrowHawk Gyroplane At Airshow China In Zhuhai

November 22, 2010 - Groen Brothers Aviation, Inc. ("GBA"), a world-wide leader in gyroplane technology, is announced the introduction of the GBA ArrowHawk Gyroplane, at China's premier Air Show in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province.

The ArrowHawk reflects the latest technology from GBA's 24 years of designing safe, high performance rotor wing aircraft. Media members at the Zhuhai Air Show will be welcome to visit us at our Booth Number D1-1A, Hall #1.  

The ArrowHawk has been designed to help meet the growing international demand for affordable runway-independent aircraft. Powered by a 700 hp turbine engine, the aircraft has vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability, comfortable seating for 7 people including pilot, 297 km/hr cruise speed, and a range of 1,145 km.  


The very economical and robust ArrowHawk is ideally suited for air tours, air taxi, and like GBA's new, smaller two-seat ShadowHawk Gyroplane, airborne observation. Airborne observation roles include: airborne police and border patrol, utility infrastructure inspection such as pipeline and power line patrol where safe, close to the ground, and slow speed flight is essential.

The ArrowHawk's features and performance will enable it to operate very effectively in the low-altitude airspace soon be opened in China. With operating costs close to that of airplanes, both the ArrowHawk and ShadowHawk gyroplanes will be very useful because they do not need the infrastructure of runways, which are in short supply in most of the world. 

The ArrowHawk's capabilities were developed from GBA's pre-production four-seat Hawk 4, the world's first turbine powered gyroplane. The Hawk 4 Gyroplane, flown safely since 2000, performed very impressively in an aerial observation role as an important part of security for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The technology behind the ArrowHawk stems from GBA's extensive gyroplane and gyrodyne experience, recognized by its selection for gyroplane research by DARPA, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.


Gyroplane and gyrodyne technology is fully scalable, from two-seat ShadowHawk class light gyroplanes to commercial airliners at the other extreme, capable of using ramp areas rather than runways and separate flight paths, able to materially reduce airport congestion.
