February 11, 2014 - An Algerian military
transport plane crashed today about noontime
killing 77 people onboard, it has been reported
that there is one survivor. The four engine
Lockheed built C-130 Hercules crashed into a
mountain near Ain Kercha, 240 miles east of
Rouïba, the capital Algiers.
Upon impact the C-130 exploded and broke up into
three pieces under poor weather conditions. The
Defense Ministry has indicated weather
conditions may have played a role in the crash,
"unfavorable weather conditions and storms
accompanied by snow in the region were behind
the crash" the ministry said.
