Quadcopter Drone Lands On White House Lawn

January 26, 2015 - Officials report that a small, commercial quadcopter drone landed on the White House lawn at the southeast grounds forcing the Secret Service to shut down the White House complex early this morning.

A Secret Service officer posted at the south grounds at the time reported he “heard and observed” the drone about 3:08 AM.

He described it as being about two feet in diameter. The Secret Service is investigating where the drone came from and under who's control.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the President and First Lady was away in India but their daughters, Malia and Sasha, are in Washington and the drone did not appear to be dangerous.

At this time it is unclear whether the drone had a camera or if it was equipped to carry anything. Earnest said “The early indications are that it does not pose any sort of ongoing threat to anybody at the White House.”
