December 14, 2012 - U.S. Border Patrol agents
assigned to the El Centro Sector seized more
than 300 pounds of marijuana that dropped from
an ultra-light aircraft in Calexico on
Wednesday.
Calexico is a city in Imperial County,
California. Calexico is about 122 miles east of
San Diego and 62 miles west of Yuma, Arizona.
The name “Calexico” is a portmanteau of
California and Mexico, which, like that of its
adjacent sister city of Mexicali, emphasizes its
identity as a border city.
The incident took place at around 1:10 a.m.,
after Border Patrol agents witnessed an
ultra-light aircraft traveling north into the
U.S. from Mexico near the Calexico Downtown Port
of Entry.
