Augustine Air Show To Be Held Memorial Day Weekend By Shane Nolan |

May 22, 2011 - After a five-year
hiatus, the St. Augustine Air Show returns to the
Northeast Florida Regional Airport Memorial Day Weekend,
May 28 - 29, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a
special salute to veterans. Proceeds from this year's air show
benefit United Way of St. Johns County, the Wounded
Warrior Project, the Special Operations Warrior
Foundation and Naval Special Warfare Foundation (Navy
SEALS). Northrop Grumman Corporation is a major sponsor
of the event. "This year's air show revives a
tradition of vintage air shows that had been held
annually at the Northeast Florida Regional Airport
dating back to 1967," said show organizer Craig Fordem. “On behalf of The St. Augustine
Memorial Day Weekend Airshow team, I would like to
personally thank all of the artists that submitted
entries to our Poster Art Contest. We received forty
five entries, including two entries from out of state.
We employed a panel of five judges, all with extensive
aviation backgrounds, including pilots, businessmen,
performers, etc. Judging the entries was exciting and
rewarding for all of us involved. All of the artwork was
outstanding”. "This
family-fun event promises to provide exciting
entertainment for the whole family with performances by
wing-walkers, perilous biplane stunts, flying comedy
acts and precision aerobatic teams, as well as an
all-women's parachute team, a fire-breathing monster
called Robosaurus, an airplane versus jet engine powered
truck race and tactical demonstrations by a U.S. Air
Force F-16." |

"We're honored to be able to serve as a major sponsor of this event to benefit these important nonprofit organizations that support our troops, but also to support an important event that benefits our local economy," said Rick Matthews, vice president of east coast production operations for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems and St. Augustine site manager. "As the largest private industrial employer in St. Johns County and a high technology aviation employer, it was a natural fit for us." |
