July 13, 2015 - The FAA has announced that it will
replace several navigational waypoint names at the Palm Beach International
Airport. These waypoints
which are used by pilots to determine their position on
a route have now become offensive and a number of pilots
have requested not to fly these routes.
Apparently in 2010, an FAA worker, a fan of "The
Apprentice," Trump's reality show thought it was amusing
to name several waypoints after Donald Trump. The FAA
unware of the names did not find it amusing and has
reported the agency would rename the following fixes;
DONLD (Donald), TRMMP (Trump), IVANK (Ivanka) and UFIRD
(Your fired).
The change could take several months to take effect, the
FAA said. Trump's Mar-a-Lago (Marjorie Merriweather Post
estate) Club is under the airport’s main flight path.
Trump purchased the the 126-room, 110,000-square-foot
estate back in 1985 for $10 million.
