July 8, 2015 - The pilot and passenger of a
Cessna 150 that was involved in deadly midair
plane crash with an Air Force F-16C fighter jet
have been identified as father and son, pilot
Joseph Johnson, 30, and his father Michael
Johnson, 68, both where from Moncks County,
South Carolina. The father and son where headed
to
Myrtle Beach.
On Tuesday, the Cessna 150, N3601V, which was
owned by Joseph Johnson was involved in a midair
crash with a United States Air Force F16C
Fighting Falcon. The pilot of the F16 jet, Maj.
Aaron Johnson from the 55th Fighter Squadron was
able to eject safely form the F16, he was the
only person onboard the F16.
The midair crash occurred around 11:30 AM, the
Cessna 150 broke up considerably after the
collision, with plane parts raining down over a
marshy wooded area near Moncks Corner,
South Carolina, both
aircraft were destroyed. Both pilot and
passenger of the Cessna 150 were killed.
A witness reported the F16 broadsided the Cessna
150 said Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury. The F16 pilot who is based out of
Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. was flying solo and
practicing instrument approaches into a military
base. It was reported that the F16 pilot was in
communication with
Charleston
air traffic controllers. Another witness
reported seeing the two planes collide, then a
“ball of fire".
