Northrop Employee Honored By Society Of Hispanic Professional Engineers

November 8, 2010 - Leony Rosa, a wireless test engineer for Northrop Grumman Corporation, has received the 2010 Professional Role Model award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) for his outstanding contributions and leadership to the Hispanic community.

As a wireless test engineer for Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector, Rosa is responsible for the development, testing and verification of several civil security-related projects and applications in the New York City region, including the New York City Wireless program, a high-speed, mobile data network that is providing a next-generation public safety infrastructure to New York City first responders.

Rosa joined Northrop Grumman in 2005 as a systems engineer for the company's Aerospace Systems sector Electronic Warfare Systems division. In that role, he worked on the development and deployment of new electronic warfare products and applications for the U.S. Navy.

"Leony's strong character and leadership qualities in the workplace, in the community and in academic settings are fully deserving of this prestigious award," said Tom Afferton, director of New York City Programs for Northrop Grumman.

Leony Rosa, a wireless test engineer for Northrop Grumman, has received the 2010 Professional Role Model award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) for his outstanding contributions and leadership to the Hispanic comm.

 

"We are very proud of Leony and his exceptional professional accomplishments and selfless contributions to the Hispanic community. His commitment to the technology profession and the future generation of engineers is to be admired and emulated." Rosa currently serves as the finance vice president on the SHPE New York City Professional Chapter executive board. He volunteers his experience by speaking to aspiring engineers at the high school and college levels.

Rosa also participates in local community programs including New York Cares Day, which beautifies public areas around New York City, and Noches de Ciencias, which informs parents of minority children about careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Rosa earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the City College of New York.
